My House is a Zoo

My house has always been too small for us, but we've survived, and it's been a little easier since Megan moved out and went to college. Our house has four bedrooms and three bathrooms, so with four people, and three cats, we were alright.

Then we got the dog.

And the two kittens.

Then Megan came back for the summer.

And brought her two cats.

And her boyfriend.

Who brought his cat.

And his two snakes.

At some point in this process, it got crowded, and then uncomfortable. The entire house smells like a litterbox. Don't get me wrong, I love all the cats and other animals, and most of the people, but a little more room would be appreciated.

A Tribute to Shannon

Last night, I picked my best friend Shannon up from the airport. She flew in from Chicago, where she'd been visiting family for about five days. It was a pretty epic reunion, Shannon and I don't do well when people separate us. I was standing around at the gate doing a little happy dance because I was so excited to see her, and my friend Robin and my dad were telling me to calm down and staring at the ceiling and eventually pretending they didn't know me. But when she did finally come out of the gate it was the best thing, so this is a tribute to her.

I promised my mom that I won't mention Bicha being pregnant for a week, but on Monday I'm allowed to bring it up again, so hopefully we can take her to the vet pretty soon. My mom wanted a week of blissful ignorance, despite the fact that she already knows....

I got a manicure/pedicure today because my parents are having their vows renewed in two weeks and I'm super excited! So now I have these long french nails and it's rather difficult to type.

Aaand there's some other stuff but I'm not allowed to blog about it yet, so we have to wait a few days. Sorry for the lack of exciting material, hopefully next time something exciting (the good kind!) will have happened.

Contagious

So, since finding out that my cat July is, in fact, a boy, not a girl (yes, this would be the cat that we've had for the past nine months), we've realized that there is a very real chance that the cat that is ACTUALLY a girl is pregnant.

This appears to be contagious.

And NO, not for humans. As in, I'm not talking about myself, for those of you who are wondering. However, it has come to my attention that a decrease appetite in a dog is the first sign of pregnancy. And considering that we let my dog outside, alone, in our backyard the entire time she was in heat, there is a very real chance that my dog is pregnant as well.

I'm a little (irrationally) scared that I'm next. But that's beside the point.

My dog, Bicha, is a rescue dog. As in, we got her from a rescue organization who got her from a pound, who had her mother while and just after she was pregnant with Bicha herself. Hash, the cat who may be pregnant, is a rescue cat, but not in the same way. We were driving home from West Virginia last summer and stopped a Foxes Pizza Den, where there was a flier in the window advertising three free kittens to a good home. Being the cat lovers we are, we talked my dad into taking them and brought them home. We gave two of the kittens away to homes that we knew were good ones (including my sister's) and kept one, for my 19-year-old brother. This cat is Hash.

Since we rescued Hash ourselves, and because kittens are hard-ish to give away, we've decided that if she is pregnant, we're going to spay her (ie, have a kitty abortion).

Puppies, on the other hand, are easier to give away. We know what we did wasn't very responsible, and that we should have had Bicha spayed earlier. But my dog is a bit of a wild woman, and my mom can't get her to the vet by herself to get Bicha spayed, since my mom has neck, back, hip, knee, and feet problems. So she was waiting for summer, so that I could help her. We know that there are constantly new dogs being filtered into the animal shelter, but we do know how to be responsible when it comes to raising small animals and finding them good homes. After all, we got July when he was only three weeks old, and he turned out to be the best cat we've ever had.

So, anyone need any puppies?
